August 2023 Black Business month:

Reflections on our Beginnings 15 years Ago

B-Love’s Guest House was created with an intention of wellness and creativity and 2023 marks 15 years we have been in business! When I began in 2008 the “West Oakland Hostel”, as it was then called, was a sacred space for the international community of artists and activists I know and love.

With my background as a performance and visual artist and my work as a founding member of Eastside Cultural Center I knew of many dance conferences, film festivals, live shows and other creative events that brought artist to the Bay Area.  I immediately put the word out to my tribe that I had rooms for rent when they came to town for a weekend gig, or for several months for an artist residency program. And my people came through!  I called, emailed, and through word of mouth let my artist community know I was in business. I am grateful to each and every person who has walked through our doors and the many ways the business is supported.
