neighborhood Guide
These are Traci’s recommendations for a great stay in Oakland and the Bay Area beyond.
FOOD
One of my favorite places to eat! The 21 leaf tea leaf salad is amazing.
Great business, products, atmosphere, and service. Check out their location on Grand Ave or the Headquarters on Fruitvale Ave. My favorite drink is a fall and holiday special, Candied Yam Latte.
This is a soul food restaurant owned by football great, Marshawn Lynch. Good vibes, great soul food.
Local Oakland ATTRACTIONS
Groceries
A co-op of passionate activists, this grocery store has fresh fruits and veggies from local farmers and many great grocery items. The location is 4 blocks from B-Love’s, across the street from West Oakland BART.
The Black Panther Party began here in West Oakland. Just a few blocks from B-Love's are historic sites, and art dedicated to the Black Panther party: A bust of Dr. Huey P. Newton (9th 9th Mandela Pkwy), BPP Central Headquarters (10th & Peralta), and a mural in tribute to The Women of the Black Panther Party (9th & Center).
Events & Cultural Center
Amazing historic cultural center for dance and theater. As an inspired 14 year old, here is where Traci attended her first dance classes. She later became an instructor and on the board of trustees for this magnificent dance institution.
